If you’ve been following along on IG, you know that our kitchen renovation has been underway! Last week they installed our new pendants (which I’m obsessed with) and this week they put in our sink and countertops. I am honestly loving everything so far and feel really happy with all of the selections. Now that the new countertops are in (we went with a mid-level quartz) I am really glad we didn’t splurge and get quartzite. Here’s why:

For starters, I love how our countertops turned out so it definitely wasn’t necessary to spend double and get quartzite. But, the thing I’ve been thinking about is how quartzite would have looked with the rest of our house. I love the look of quartzite but now that I see what this quartz looks like in our kitchen with our cabinets, our style of home and our furniture – I don’t know if quartzite would have looked as “fluid” with the space. I feel like the quartzite could have looked “too sleek” or “too modern” compared with the rest of our home. Granted, there are of course different quartzite finishes so they vary in how they look but looking back at all the ones I was considering – I don’t think it would have been the best aesthetic choice for our space. As a side note – this is also one of the reasons I didn’t want to get solid white quartz. For starters, it’s not my personal favorite but I felt like it would look too sterile in this space anyway.

You always want to work with the style of your home vs. fighting against it. For example, if I had a bunch of mid-mod furniture in this house, it would definitely feel more out of place with the box beam ceilings in my office, the transom windows, the columns in our kitchen, the molding through the house, etc. And obviously at the end of the day, if you wanted to put all mid-mod furniture in this style of house of could you could if that’s what you personally wanted/liked. But, I personally think it’s a good thing to keep in mind when working with a space. You want items to feel complimentary to the home itself and vice versa.

So all that to say, I’m very happy I ended up going with the mid-level quartz. It was much more affordable and I think it works great with our kitchen/home so it’s a win win. And I figured I’d share for anyone else that is going through a kitchen renovation or updating any space!
