The weather is getting warmer which means summer is inevitably coming, yay! I don’t know about you guys but I pretty much hate cold weather–like if it’s under 70 degrees I can’t deal haha. But with summer coming up I know a lot of people start to stress about their “summer bodies.” It’s like all the sudden we get in the workout and health mode because we will be wearing shorts, bikinis…basically no more bulky sweaters to cover up with! So what are my thoughts on how to “do” this?
For starters, don’t do any drastic. I think it can be tempting to jump into a really strict diet or intense workout regimen but that won’t last long and as a result it won’t yield good results–physically or mentally. Now, I’m not saying it’s wrong to put in some extra effort in these areas but anytime you go too extreme it won’t end well. I think the best approach is to be realistic and practical. Find a diet and workout approach that you can actually stick to and that you’ll want to continue doing. Picking something that won’t extend beyond summer won’t do you any favors. Create habits that you can start to incorporate year long that way when next summer comes around you won’t be in panic mode as much.
From another perspective–when it comes to summer clothes and swimwear, find pieces that are actually flattering! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried on certain swimsuits and looked in the mirror and been horrified LOL. Okay, maybe not horrified but I feel like we’ve all been there–we’ve felt really good about our body or the progress we’ve made and then try on something that does us no justice and are like WTF! In this moment, don’t get discouraged and discount everything you’ve worked for! Instead, find some other more flattering options. Maybe you need to try a different size, a different style or cut. Or hello–one pieces and high waisted bikinis?! They are your best friend! Or maybe the color just isn’t for you. Or maybe you just need to apply some self tanner! May sound silly, but I always feel like a new person when I’m tan. I’m not kidding. I may not be feeling confident in an outfit and then I self tan and all the sudden the outfit looks and feels totally different. Try it! (Ps. Also, I think another thing to remember is this. Most people are so insecure about their own body that they aren’t even paying attention to yours. I mean, do you think anyone else is stressing as much about your body as you are? No. And IF they are, then fuck them! Why do you want to spend your time around people who are going to judge you and place that much emphasis on what you physically look like?!
And yes, I get it. We all want to feel confident and comfortable in our own skin. And I’m not saying that you shouldn’t make changes to achieve that however so much of it is a mental thing. If you are constantly self-critical then you’re going to be even more insecure and overly hard on yourself, which is just damn stressful! Trust me, I’ve been there. Instead put time and effort into creating better habits to help get you to where you want to be. In the meantime, focus on what you love about yourself, get a tan, and find some flattering swimwear! Hey, just being realistic here 😉
