I’ll be honest, whether I’m working from home or driving in for a shift at the hospital like I used to, I am all about getting ready in 15 minutes or less. Unless I am going out somewhere for a really special occasion, I am not the type of person that likes to spend an hour plus doing my hair, makeup etc. Honestly, I can get ready quicker than Stephen at this point and I feel like that says something 😉 So whether you’re going into work, getting ready for a zoom call or just don’t want to look like a troll around the house (that’s my favorite way to describe myself when I could clearly use some TLC LOL)–these are my top tips for getting ready quickly!
Plan your outfit the night before. The less things you have to think about the better. Even if you’re not actually going into work, picking out your outfit the night before will save you so much time and mental energy. Especially if you’re going into work, try on your outfit the night before if it’s pieces you’ve never worn together. The worst thing is to throw on an outfit that you think will work and then you put it on as you’re about to walk out the door and the pieces just don’t go together like you thought! Then you’re in panic mode, trying to throw something together last minute. Even when I worked at the hospital and would wear the same rotation of scrubs every time, I would lay out my specific scrub top, bottoms, socks, jacket etc. Again, the fewer things you have to think about first thing, the better! It will help streamline your morning regardless of where you are working or what you are doing.
Know what hair products and styles work for your hair. In the 15-minute-getting-ready scenario, there is no time for a full hair wash, dry and style session. And let’s be honest, even if I do have the time, doing that all at once is just exhausting LOL. For me, I know what hair styles and products are my go-to and take minimal time and effort. After I wash my hair, I tend to curl it the next day because I know adding some body and texture will help it appear better, longer. So once it’s curled, I know that I can get away with not really doing anything for the next few days. But once that 4th day hits, my hair needs some attention which is where Waterl<ss dry conditioner or dry shampoo come in. By this point my hair is starting to get oily, so I know I’ll benefit from using both their dry shampoo and dry conditioner. The Dry Conditioner Instant Moisture is great for earlier in the week when my hair just needs a little refresh but once we hit the 4th day though I need to pull out all the stops 😉 And they’re available at Target!!
Waterl<ss Dry Shampoo No Residue is ideal for fine or oily hair, and it’s great because it’s no residue so you don’t have to worry about that white, chalky look getting left behind in your hair (not cute). It works by absorbing the oil so you can go longer between washes. Win win. I then finish with the Dry Conditioner Instant Moisture. They have two different variations one of which is for thicker hair (this is what I use) and one for fine hair. The dry conditioner is great to tame frizz (which I still get even though it’s not as humid in NC), and it helps soften my hair as well. Just spray it from mid-length down and brush it throughout your hair once it dries! Below you can see the before & after photos of using their products. Only thing I did prior to using them was re-curl the front pieces of hair around my face.
PS. If y’all aren’t familiar with Waterl<ss you should definitely check them out! I haven’t seen a dry conditioner on the market, so I was immediately intrigued when I saw they had a dry conditioner in addition to a dry shampoo. Their story is also really inspiring because they launched in 2018 when Cape Town announced they were 3 months away from running out of water for 4 million people! Their products allow you to go longer in between washes with no water needed (obviously) and they are made for a variety of hair types. Also pro tip that I learned from them. Dry shampoo works best in your hair before a workout! So if you’re planning to workout, spray in your hair immediately beforehand and then take down your hair and brush it out after your workout is done.
Minimal makeup routine. Alright guys, focus on the essentials here! We don’t have time for contouring or a full blown eye makeup tutorial 😉 For me, I always do a foundation or cc cream, (sometimes) concealer, and then just bronzer and mascara (on my bottom lashes since I have extensions right now). If you want to go a step further, grab your favorite chapstick or natural colored lip balm. Keep it simple! I mean, the quality on these zoom calls isn’t that great anyway 😉
Have easy/quick go-to breakfast options. Whenever I worked at the hospital especially, I wanted to savor every extra minute of sleep I could get so I always had quick breakfast options on hand. Even now, I know that if I have an early phone call or even just want to get my day started quicker, I know what breakfast options are going to be filling but quick and easy to make. I love avocado toast with everything but the bagel seasoning (classic), PB and banana toast with cinnamon, yogurt with granola, egg white muffins or overnight oats. Overnight oats are great because you can literally make them the night before, throw them in the fridge, and just grab it and eat in the morning. Pinterest has some great recipes and variations for egg white muffins and overnight oats if you want to give either one a try!
Another other tips y’all have?! xxC
