I feel so happy that we are finally getting to a place where travel is becoming a (safe) possibility! I know it has been a minute since a lot of us traveled, especially somewhere that was more than just a weekend getaway by car. So today I thought I would share some tips I’ve found helpful for packing and a few travel essentials!
So when it comes to packing, one thing I’ve found to be so helpful is to not only plan our your outfits ahead of time but to take photos of you in them prior to packing/leaving for your trip. This helps with a few things. It prevents you from overpacking and ensures that the pieces you’re packing make up actual outfits and that you feel good in them. There is nothing worse than getting somewhere and putting on an outfit and you’re like “I hate how this looks” LOL. It also lets you easily see if the items are versatile enough to mix and match or if you have to really pack (and have room for) 5 totally different outfits for 5 days, etc. Overall this will save you time getting ready once you get to your destination and also prevent overpacking.
In general when it comes to packing, it can be hard to know exactly what to pack if you don’t have an specific itinerary. When we go on trips, there may be a few things we know for sure we want to do, but we usually plan as we go depending on what we’re in the mood for that day. That being said, I feel like it’s always good to pack one pair sneakers, sandals (boots during the winter) and one pair of nicer shoes/heels. Ideally you can find one pair in each category that kind of go with everything so you’re not packing 7 pairs of shoes for a 7 day trip. I also like to pack 1-2 lighter layering pieces that are versatile as well, and 1-2 bags/purses. Usually I’ll take a larger one (like this tote) on the plane and pack a smaller one for day to day. I’m writing this post as if you’re going to be in warm(er) weather since we are heading into spring and summer, but feel like the same rules really apply year round. I know that winter can be harder though since items like boots and jackets take up the most room!
Okay, now onto some travel essentials that I feel like really help with organization:
Packing Cubes. Okay this is a travel accessory which I have yet to use but I feel like everyone who uses them swears by them! So ordering some before my next trip. Calpak has some really cute ones and of course Amazon has some options as well!
Suitcase. Okay obviously you need a suitcase if traveling lol. I have an Away suitcase which I absolutely love. It’s held up really well and I love all the compartments and features of it. Calpak is also a great brand, and I love a lot of Caraa’s duffle and tote bags. This bag is my go-to especially when on planes. It fits so much stuff and has a separate interior compartment to store your laptop.
Vanity Kit. I got this right before COVID happened and finally got to use it a few months ago on a weekend getaway. I love this thing! It makes packing everything from makeup, skincare, hair accessories, jewelry (has separate compartments for necklaces, earrings) etc. so convenient and organized. It can sit up right on a counter or hang on the back of a door. It’s a little bit of an investment but I feel like it is totally worth it when traveling.
Individual Travel Containers. If you aren’t checking a bag and/or need to save on space, definitely condense your hair and skin products. You can do invidual containers like these, or another travel kit like this one for just items like your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.
Okay guys, I think that’s about all I got! Any other suggestions, please share below.
