Hey guys! Today I am excited to share my experience (and results so far) getting Emsculpt Neo! If you missed it, a couple months ago I shared that Finn Plastic Surgery (located in Chapel Hill, NC) reached out to me to try Emsculpt Neo. They are the only plastic surgery office in the area to have it (other places have the Emscupt but not the Emsculpt Neo which I’ll elaborate on more in a bit), and I was definitely curious to give it a try. They have been voted the favorite Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon in Chapel Hill for 8 years so I felt super confident trying this treatment with them!
I feel like whenever I hear Emsculpt I think of something Dorit from RHOBH would be doing, so you know I am all about trying to get on that level 😉 But really, it’s a non-invasive treatment that has a ton of benefits from building muscle and strengthening (your core), to burning fat, to helping with diastasis recti. I did the treatment on my abdominal area but it’s also FDA approved for the buttocks, and triceps. Today though I am going to share specifically about the core benefits, what the overall process is like, and the results I’ve seen so far!
What is Emsculpt Neo? What does it do? Okay so first I just want to talk about what the actual treatment is, and why you may want to get it. Emsculpt Neo is a non-invasive treatment that uses radio frequency heating to reduce fat and electromagnetic energy for strengthening and toning muscle. The radio frequency energy is what allows for fat reduction, and this is what makes the Emsculpt Neo different than just the Emsculpt. The Emsculpt has the electromagnetic energy which strengthens your muscles but it lacks the radio frequencies hence the fat burning component. So overall just think of it as a treatment that allows you to burn fat while also building muscle. It’s great for people who are looking to jump start their fitness journeys, use in conjunction with their current workouts to build more muscle and burn fat quicker, and if you have diastasis recti it can help with that as well!
So how exactly does the Emsculpt Neo build muscle and burn fat? I posted a video below so you can get a better idea of how it actually works but essentially, the device delivers high-intensity electromagnetic pulses which causes your (abdominal) muscles to contract. So in one thirty minute session, your muscles are contracting the same amount as if you were to do 20,000 sit-ups! Crazy, I know. And then the radio frequency heating component is burning fat simultaneously.
What is the process like? What do I need to know before treatments? As far as the actual treatments, 4-6 sessions (30 minutes each) are recommended. You have a session every 5-10 days and you start to see results about a month out from your last session. The initial results you’ll start to see are more around the muscle building and toning, and then up to 6 months out from your last treatment is when you see ultimate fat-loss. So it’s not a procedure that you have done and all of the sudden you’re like – wow, my body looks totally different! You will start to see changes a month or so out but it’s more long-lasting and it helps jump start you into building more muscle and burning fat. Aside from aesthetic changes though, you will start to feel a stronger core as you’re doing the treatments -at least I did! My personal trainer and I do ab exercises as the end of every session and I usually have to stop mid set because my abs are too sore/tired or because my lower back hurts. Since getting Emsculpt Neo I literally can go through all of my ab sets/reps without stopping and my lower back doesn’t hurt during ab exercises, leg days, etc.
As far as the actual treatments go, the only thing you really need to know is to be hydrated before your sessions and just wear really comfortable clothes. I’d always show up in sweats and just roll them down for the actual treatment. For the treatment itself, you’re laying down on a (massage-like) table and for 30 minutes the Emsculpt Neo device is placed on your abdomen (or whatever area you’re having treated). For those 30 minutes, you’ll experience the high-intensity electromagnetic pulses which causes your muscles to contact. Simultaneously, you’ll feel a slightly warming sensation which is the radio frequencies burning the fat. Below I shared a video of me actually getting the treatment at Finn Plastic Surgery so you can see what it’s like!
In general, it’s not painful or uncomfortable per se, but it takes a couple sessions to get used to the sensation. My first session I was like “woah what is this feeling” haha, but when every time afterwards when I went in I knew what to expect so it didn’t feel as weird.
Results So below I shared my before and after photos so far! These photos were taken about a month after my last treatment so I’m at the stage where muscle building is more optimal and then later this year I’ll take another set of after photos since fat-loss will be more optimal at that time. I know I mentioned that I could feel that my core was stronger, and I can see in the photos that my upper abs are more defined and my lower stomach has slightly more definition and lays a little flatter. I will also say one other thing I noticed before even taking these photos, is that I just felt different. For example, I always buy high-waisted items especially when it comes to swimsuits. But the other week I remember thinking to myself, “I’m actually feeling pretty good right now. If I was going on a trip, I feel like I’d be open to buying swimsuits that aren’t quite as high-waisted.” And for me, that is a big deal! Sometimes it’s the start of the smallest changes that make you feel more confident. Here are my photos though (left is before and right is after) :
If y’all are interested in the Emsculpt Neo, definitely make an appointment with Finn or give them a call to discuss it further. Overall I had such a great experience with them – they are super professional, their office is beautiful and they make you feel so comfortable when you’re there. I also started getting botox there with Dr. Tyler (Dr. Elkins-Williams on their website, Tyler is his first name) and he’s great! A few of my girlfriends have already seen him as well and love their results. I’ll definitely keep you posted with any other treatments I have per usual 😉
