Hi guys! As you may have seen, I shared a moving update with you all yesterday (if you missed it it’s saved under my moving update highlight). Long story short after an eight month saga of looking into and planning on moving to Denver we have officially decided to stay in Raleigh. We really do love the city of Denver but it basically came down to properties that we liked (not even loved – we were making a LOT of compromises) were still on the very high end of what we wanted to spend and then were often going for several hundred thousand over asking. So this past weekend we were like – does this move really make sense? It just started to feel really forced and a lot of the excitement was taken out of it. In that moment we decided that we felt like the best thing for us to was stay put for now. We love our current home and are in a great position with it, so we don’t need to do anything right now that doesn’t feel like it’s aligning anymore.
That being said, we have talked about in the past if we were to stay in Raleigh that we would consider moving closer into the city center (ITB for anyone familiar with Raleigh). So as of right now that is our plan – we are keeping our eyes peeled or anything that pops up in North Hills, Five Points, or in the surrounding areas. I will say though, even though our home is a little further out (20 minutes from North Hills) we absolutely LOVE the house itself and it’s on an amazing lot. That being said, we would really need to find a home that checks a lot of boxes if we were to leave this one. Because at the end the day if we end up staying in this house, then we feel super lucky and grateful and know we can continue to make it our own. There’s usually some compromise that you have to make so the fact that the only thing we would personally change is the location it says a lot. But North Raleigh in general is great and I can see why people would prefer to live out here than ITB anyway. Everything is a trade off just depending on your wants/needs!
Overall, we feel really happy with our decision and we are looking back and what we were considering buying in Denver especially at the price point we were, and we have been like how did we justify that?! I think in general when you want something so badly you are willing to make so many concessions for it but then at the end it isn’t what you ended up wanting in the first place because of all the compromises you had to make to get there. We wouldn’t have loved our house (I mean, we probably wouldn’t have been able to get an offer accepted, let’s be honest lol) and we would have been paying such aa premium we wouldn’t have wanted to spend money actually enjoying the city! So all in all, I know we made the right choice and I feel good about Raleigh and excited to see what happens next!
Ps. Thanks for bearing with me and this moving saga! It’s been an exhausting 8 months and I’m glad it’s behind us! Well the moving to Denver part anyway 😉
So excited that you all are staying in Raleigh
Us too! We feel good about the decision 🙂
