This was asked during a Q&A so figured I’d recap it on the blog for anyone who missed it! I’ve shared posts before on “how to find your personal style” and “how to buy clothes you’ll actually wear” but that doesn’t necessarily address the question of where I get my style inspiration from in the first place.
However, before jumping into that, I do think it’s important to do both of those wardrobe activities I linked above. The reason being, at the end of the day you may love someone’s personal style but if it doesn’t realistically fit into your life, then you’re never going to actually wear those items and that defeats the entire purpose. For example, I know that I am going to wear either athleisure or more casual fits 95% of the time. So as much as I may love some of the women’s personal styles on Selling Sunset or RHOBH, it’s not going to translate into my personal style that I’m wearing each day hah. For example, I love the look of some heels but I know I am a sneakers girl. That’s what I’m comfortable in and that’s what I want to wear unless I’m going to a wedding LOL. So I just share this insight because I feel like it’s super helpful in determining what your personal style is and therefore where you can pull inspo from.
So where do I get my inspo? I know by now that my personal style falls into the categories of “elevated athleisure” or “street style” and I also prefer neutrals. So sometimes I’ll go to Pinterest and search those categories or something along the lines of “neutral street style” or “all black outfit” to get ideas. Other times, if I have an article of clothing that I love but need inspo on how to style it, I’ll search for that item on Pinterest (ie. “oversized blazer”). I also get inspo from scrolling through IG. If I see an outfit that falls into the athleisure or street style category that I really like, I’ll save it as inspo for later.
All that to say – hopefully, this gives you a better idea of where you can get more clear on your personal style and where I pull my inspiration from!
