Packing For Italy In Spring: What Clothes I’m Bringing

Since we leave for Italy tomorrow, I thought I’d share with you what clothes I’m packing!

While in Italy we’re going to Rome, Positano, Capri, Orvieto, and San Gimignano. I’ll admit, I assumed that it would be warm in Italy right now since it’s been 80 degrees + here. Well, I was wrong LOL. Even though it’s May, I forget that it’s not summer weather in a lot of places yet, Italy being one of them. I mean, when we booked our boat tour from Positano to Capri, I imagined lounging on the boat deck in a bikini with an Aperol Spritz in hand. I may still have that Aperol Spritz but I don’t think that bikini is part of the picture haha.

Right now in Italy the temperatures are anywhere from low 60’s to mid 70’s as the high. And it’s interesting because the higher temperatures are in the locations that are further north. Unfortunately Positano and Capri temperatures will be low 60s. BUT it will still be fabulous and we’re going to make the most of it, bikini or not 😉

I feel like with these temperatures, packing can be tricky since when it’s 75 and sunny feels HOT but then 60s and shade feels freezing. So here’s what I plan to pack for the two weeks:

-Pants: Two pairs of jeans and two pairs of dressier/flowy pants. These are great for dinners at night, and allow plenty of room for food babies 😉

-Shorts: 2 pairs of jean shorts. I feel like skirts, dresses and jeans are much more popular to wear in Italy so I’m just going to bring 2 pairs of shorts and call it a day.

-Skirts: I’m going to bring one jean skirt since it’s versatile for day or night, and a midi skirt. Midi skirts are great for the in between temps!

-Dresses & Jumpsuits: Jumpsuits, maxi dresses any kind of flowy dressy are good options for day or night!

-Tops: Basics, and neutrals that are good for mixing and matching.

-Shoes: Sneakers for one! You definitely need a good pair of walking shoes. I love the ones linked from ECCO below. A little pricey but I have them in brown and really love them. They don’t give you blisters when you first get them so that’s a big reason why I ordered them in white for our trip. They will go great with jeans, skirts, dresses, shorts…basically everything! And one good pair of summer sandals.

-Jackets: In my opinion, jean jackets and military are the most versatile and are best for layering. Trenches are also a great option and a little dressier.

Girl – we got back from Rome, Positano, and capri two weeks ago and we also live in N.C. (Charlotte!) and I will say, we all agreed that it felt WAY warmer than what we pictured “60s” being. we booked a private boat trip in positano one day when the “high” was 64 and I packed pants, a sweater, etc… and literally ended up being perfectly comfortable in my bathing suit (which blew my mind). Anyway, my tip is to bring the warm weather clothing anyway (along w a light jacket and etc too of course)! I’m not sure if it’s the humidity or the accuracy of the weather report as it translates from Celsius to Fahrenheit but mid-April 60 degrees in Italy was not cold at all.
