So it’s been almost two years since I cut my hair short (I cut off about 10 inches), and I still feel like I get questions like–“Are you glad you cut your hair?! I’m thinking of cutting mine!” So I thought it would be good to do a full blog post with a rundown of what I personally like and dislike about each 🙂
Let’s get straight to the points first and then I’ll share a few other things on my mind!
SHORT HAIR
Pros
-hair (usually) looks and feels healthier
-you have more natural volume since it’s not as weighed down
-a half-up half-down bun is your best friend (always looks the cutest on short haircuts!)
-less shedding
-can look more “trendy/edge-y” depending on the haircut you get. it can be more of an accessory vs. long hair which tends to “look the same on everyone”
-great for framing your face & features.
-feels freeing/liberating doing the big chop!
-can flip your hair back & forth with different parts (again, has more volume and flexibility than long hair)
Cons
-you actually have to style it (for the most part). don’t bring in a picture to your hair stylist of a short haircut if you don’t want to put effort into the maintenance of it
-more frequent hair cuts. not that a big deal but just something to think about. can be more expensive since you probably want to cut it every month or two.
-limited styling options. no long braids, long-pony, big top knot, etc.
LONG HAIR
Pros
-lower maintenance. can just put up in a bun or pony-tail and be done with it. you can just get up and go!
-less frequent hair cuts
-you have more options for how you want to wear it (long ponytail, full top knot/bun, (fishtail) braids, etc)
Cons
-shedding all the time it seems LOL
-can look straggly/unhealthy if you just let it grow and don’t take care of it
-takes longer to (blow) dry and style
-some people hide behind their (long hair)
-use more shampoo & conditioner
Okay, I feel like there are probably more things to add to these lists but this is what I’ve been able to come up with 😉 So these are more objective things to consider but I’ll tell you my experience in doing the big chop! One, I don’t regret cutting my hair. I’ve had it short for almost 2 years now so I obviously liked it enough after initially chopping it to keep it. It was definitely freeing/liberating. And honestly I definitely think it compliments my facial features (more than long hair). Spoiler alert though: I am looking into hair extensions #guilty — which is what made me think to write this blog. I know, I know. You’re probably like but you just said you didn’t regret cutting your hair and you actually think short hair looks better on you!? That is correct haha. But this is how I’m feeling right now..
I’m honestly tired of always feeling like I have to style it before running out the door. Like I said above, you can’t really just “get up and go” and with the amount of photos I take for work it’s just a lot if maintenance. Maybe that sounds silly but that’s just how I feel/the reality of it! I think the other thing is I just want to try something different and switch it up. If you’ve been following for a while you know I like to change my up hair. Blonde, bronde, brown, short, really short, really long, etc. You get the picture 😉 But really, I feel like I am always someone who likes to change it up and so the fact that I kept my hair short for almost 2 years is pretty impressive to me LOL.
So, do I regret cutting it? No! I now know what I look like with short hair and what short hair entails. I wouldn’t be surprised if I cut my hair short again the future. But these are just my thoughts and some of the pros and cons I’ve thought of/experienced. If you’re really thinking of doing the big chop for your hair though, read this blog post! This will give you all the info you need to know before going in for your cut! xxC

Good idea? gór summer short hair
As long as we are confident with our looks, that’s all that matters. Women become more attractive if they are comfortable and feel pretty with their hairstyle.
