So I tried to think of whether I wanted to title this “harder” or “hectic” seasons because I feel like I’m going though a mix of both right now and they can be equally taxing depending on what you’re dealing with. Obviously at the end of the day, you may have all good and exciting things happening, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t stressful in their own way. And alternatively, you may be working through one really tough thing that is happening, so even though things don’t feel “hectic” per-say, they are still hard to navigate.
The past few weeks have been a little bit of both for me – and so I just figured I’d share a few things that have helped me navigate each day. I also have a reel on 6 things I do for my mental health so I feel like those tips have been super helpful during this time as well.
Take one day at a time I know easier said that done but if you can, it’s best to not over analyze or worry about what the future may hold. It can just cause unnecessary anxiety and overwhelm so just focus on what that current day is bringing.
Stay in your routine as much as you can (but don’t beat yourself up over it) I know that it can be difficult to stick to your normal routines when you feel like life is incredibly hectic, or because you’re feeling down/unmotivated during a harder season. But (for me at least), I know I feel better at the end of the day when I can maintain some sense of normalcy. So for me, I still will meditate for my 7 minutes in the morning, workout (or at least get outside for a walk), wake up and go to sleep at my normal time, etc. Outside of those things, it’s been really challenging for me to stay in my routines and caught up with work, etc. But at the end of the day, you just have to do what you can, focus on what keeps you grounded and just give yourself some grace. After all, it’s only temporary.
Remember that nothing lasts forever Speaking of it’s only temporary – remember that nothing lasts forever. So even though in the moment things may be really sh*tty, or so chaotic to the point where you’re just trying to keep your head above water…it will pass. I also remind myself that with each hard season you get through, when the next one comes you can remind yourself that you’ve been through this before and you will get through it again. This also goes back to one day at a time, one foot in front of the other.
Focus on what is in your control – your reactions, your boundaries, how you spend your time, what you put your energy into. When you catch yourself saying “I wish, I should have, if only” you are probably following it with a statement of something that is no longer in your control. So do your best not to spend your time and energy focusing on that. At the of the day, sometimes “it just is what it is” – you can’t change what happened so you just have to find a way to move forward and live with the reality of the situation. That’s also a big reason behind why I got the tattoo “forward” on my wrist. It’s just a constant reminder to me that all you can do is focus on moving forward and navigating the future vs. dwelling on what happened in the past and things in the present that are not in your control.
I hope the some of these tips helped, but I know, it’s always easier said that done. Also remember that, every single person has their own issues they are dealing with, despite what you may see on social media. You are less alone than you think! xx
